Whisk (acquired by Samsung in 2019) is building a Samsung Food Platform which helps millions of users worldwide find and save recipes, connect with like-minded foodie communities, and save time and money on planning, cooking, and shopping. You’ll find Whisk across a variety of devices including mobile apps, web, voice, Samsung Family-Hub fridges, and more.

Whisk has a 4.8 star rating on both the iOS and Android store, was included in Google Play’s Best of 2020 Everyday Essentials list, has been featured on the Apple app store numerous times, and was nominated for a 2021 Webby Award. We’re cooking up great things!

We’re a remote-first, globally distributed team of 100+ people based in the US, UK, Europe, Africa, Korea, Israel and everywhere in between. We are looking for a WordPress Developer to join our dynamic team working to build a best in class global food platform within Samsung. This role is part-time contract, remote-based.

In this role, you will focus on

  • Owning whisk.com multisite network, implement new features and fix errors if found.
  • Optimising the website performance. 
  • Creating and supporting new plugin(s) that would enable us using WordPress as a headless CMS for the web app (currently my.whisk.com)
  • Creating new and supporting existing pages on marketing website (currently whisk.com) and Creator Hub (whisk.com/creators)
  • Creating new custom blocks and update existing ones for Gutenberg editor to enrich editorial content, written by our copywriters.
  • Implementing new landing pages on marketing website, using web app APIs.
  • Redesigning marketing website and move it to the new domain when whisk becomes Samsung Food.

Key Skills/Experience 

  • Professional experience with WordPress plugin / theme development, architecture, and standards.
  • Advanced proficiency with PHP and MySQL, including modern PHP practices (OOP, autoloading, namespacing, traits, interfaces, etc).
  • Strong familiarity with JavaScript (vanilla JS, jQuery, ES6, etc).
  • Ability to use and extend build tools like gulp and webpack.
  • Familiarity with package managers such as Composer and NPM.
  • Experience working with third-party APIs (Eg Stripe, Drip, Zapier, etc).
  • Competent with version control through git and GitHub.
  • The ability to iterate and ship ideas quickly.
  • Previous freelance or remote work experience.
  • Personal Computer with Internet Access, fast enough for video calls.
  • Good written and verbal communication in English.

Bonus points if you also have

  • Advanced proficiency in React.
  • Experience with performance optimization of WordPress FE (PageSpeed, JS, CSS) & BE (TTFB, MySQL, PHP).
  • Experience with DevOps or infrastructure management.
